Joseph C. Hubbard, (hereinafter “you” or “Respondent”), you are hereby ordered to appear and show cause at a special public hearing of the Board of Trustees (hereinafter “Board”) of the Incorporated Village of Babylon (hereinafter “Village”) at 7:00 PM on September 27, 2022, at 153 West Main Street, Babylon, NY 11702, why the Board of Trustees (hereinafter the “Board”) should not abate the nuisance or unsafe building condition at 619 Deer Park Avenue, Babylon, NY 11702 or otherwise take action, pursuant to Chapters 113 & 237 of the Village Code.
SO ORDERED:
BOARD OF TRUSTEES
INCORPORATED VILLAGE OF BABYLON
Dated: Babylon, New York
September 20, 2022
Mr. Hubbard addressed the Board stating he has lived in Babylon since 1973.
He purchased his house as a fire wreck, restored it and was dismayed when the Village then raised his taxes.
Mr. Hubbard explained that many years ago, he was instructed to clean up his property before a parade. Mayor Scordino and Steve Fellman were amenable to Mr. Hubbard fencing in the yard so the items were not visible from the road. After he installed the fence, Mr. Hubbard believes the Village took over some of his property, the sanitation crew stopped picking up his garbage, he had to endure the expense to repair some of the sidewalk and his requests to have the street light repaired have been ignored.
Mr. Hubbard stated that he believes he is being targeted.
He stated there are many valuable possessions on his property and at his recent yard sale people spread everything out all over his yard. He claims he has been hauling away possessions, has two dumpsters and workers to help and feels it unjust for the Village to continue issuing him summonses.
The meeting was opened to the public; the following resident addressed the Board:
Doreen Spiller, 65 Southards Lane, Babylon, NY 11702
Ms. Spiller offered to assist Mr. Hubbard and asked him if the community could help clean up the property. She also inquired as to the anticipated completion date.
On the motion of Trustee Seibert, seconded by Trustee Miga and unanimously carried, it was
RESOLVED to reserve decision.
The meeting adjourned at 7:18 PM.
